In her paintings, Yanqing Pei delves into how different beings coexist with distinct rhythms, while possible relationships emerge and evolve between them. Her practice opens up a chaotic, yet harmonious shared world where elements transform, dissolve and recombine, suggesting ambiguous states of being that remain in flux. Through linear structures, transparent layers and shifting forms, her paintings create a space for poetic imagination.
Pei graduated with her BFA and MFA in Chinese Painting in 2014 and 2017, from China Academy of Art, and her MFA in Painting and Drawing in 2021, from Pratt Institute. Pei's work has been exhibited in New York, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Miami and Rome. She is currently working and living in Queens, New York.
